Banana Bread

A dense cake-like bread made with bananas and chopped walnuts.

¾ cup sugar
¼ cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup mashed bananas
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp baking soda
1 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Mix sugar, shortening and eggs; beat hard until light. Add mashed banana.
  2. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Beat until smooth. Add walnuts.
  3. Pour into a greased 9X5X3 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 60-70 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
