Orange Gingerbread

An orange-flavored loaf of gingerbread, moistened with a half cup of cold tea.

½ cup butter
½ cup light molasses
Juice of 1 orange
Grated rind of 1 orange
1 ¾ cups pastry flour
1 tsp ginger
½ cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
½ cup cold tea
¾ tsp baking soda


  1. Cream butter, add sugar and mix until fluffy.
  2. Add molasses, beaten egg, rind and juice of orange and beat well.
  3. Add tea and flour which has been sifted with soda and ginger.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes at 325 degrees or until bread springs back in center.
