Caramel Brownies

These fudge-like brownies are a very rich chocolate brownie made with German chocolate cake, caramel, pecans and additional chocolate.

1 14oz bag Kraft Caramels
2/3 cup (5 1/3 fl oz can) evaporated milk
1 2-layer German Chocolate cake mix
½ cup margarine, melted
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips


  1. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup milk over low heat, stirring until smooth. Combine remaining milk, cake mix, margarine and pecans. Mix well.
  2. Press half of cake mixture into bottom of greased 13X9 inch baking pan. Reserve remaining dough for topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 6-8 minutes.
  3. Remove and sprinkle chocolate chips over baked layer. Spread melted caramels over chocolate chips, spreading to edges of pan. Top with teaspoonfuls o remaining cake mixture. Bake 18-20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  4. Cool slightly, then chill to set caramel layer. Cut into small squares.
