Ginger-spiced apples pan-fried with slivered almonds.

-By Carrie (Strommen) Lennie

¼ cup sugar
¼ tsp powdered ginger
¼ cup slivered almonds
5 Tbsp butter
4 apples, cored and sliced in ¼” thick rings

  1. Mix sugar and ginger. Sauté almonds in 1 tablespoon of the butter until toasted; stir in half the sugar-ginger mixture; set aside and keep warm.
  2. In a large frying pan with cover, melt remaining butter. Add apple slices and sprinkle with remaining sugar-ginger mixture. Cover pan and cook apples over medium heat until almost tender, about 10 minutes. With spatula, carefully turn apples and cook on other side until tender.
  3. Arrange about 4 apple rings in a row, overlapping, on each of 4 warm dessert plates. Sprinkle almonds in a line down center of apple rings. Spoon any remaining pan juices over apples. Makes 4 servings.
